Teenie Postoak is Elora's aunt.
History[]
Childhood[]
As children, Natalie, Bev, Teenie, Rita, and Cookie were all friends. They choreographed an elaborate dance routine together.[1]
Mabel's Death[]
Teenie came back to town when she learned that Mabel was dying. There was some tension because she'd been gone for so long, but she and Rita quickly made peace. Then she introduced herself to Elora, whom she said looked just like Cookie.
Teenie talked to Big, who said he'd never been married. He asked if she was looking and she said she had too much baggage. He said it would fit right next to his.
Teenie helped cook with the other aunties and they shared memories of Cookie and how Mabel took care of all of them. Elora was surprised to hear that because Mabel had always been cold to her, but Teenie said that Mabel couldn't recover after Cookie died.
As night set in, Teenie talked to Big again, saying that deaths tended to bring people together, though Cookie's had split them all apart.
Teenie asked Elora what she was planning to do with the house, which would be hers after Mabel passed. She said Elora could fix it up and sell it, then use the money to go to school. Elora asked Teenie when she'd left and Teenie said she left when Cookie died. She didn't know what to do, so she enlisted, which allowed her to travel and get a degree. But she came home when Elora was born and held her while Cookie rested. She regretted not coming back sooner, just to see Elora.
Early the next morning, Brownie came to tell Elora and Teenie that it was time. They went back to Mabel's room and sat next to her bed. When Mabel took her last breath, Teenie hugged Elora. Elora pulled away and left, so Teenie hugged Rita.[2]
IHS Conference[]
Teenie attended the IHS conference with Natalie, Bev, and Rita. They all immediately started looking for men to hook up with. They then went together to the vendors, where Priscilla gave Natalie and Rita, the two mothers, stones to use for pelvic floor exercises while Teenie and Bev got vaginal steams.
When Rita caught the attention of Sam, a doctor, they all encouraged her to snag him. When she agreed to meet him at the bar later, they all went back to the same hotel room, where they set up the vaginal steam for Rita.
Once they were all ready, they went to the bar. Teenie passed out edibles to all of them, though Rita was reluctant to eat hers. Once the marijuana kicked in, the four of them went onto the dance floor, where they imagined themselves performing an elaborate dance routine as they'd done when they were children, but really, they were awkwardly shuffling around the floor.
As the night progressed, they started reminiscing and Rita and Natalie both said they missed the days before they were mothers. This led to a disagreement between them and Teenie, who had no children, but didn't agree that her life was easier because of that. She ended up leaving in anger.
Teenie went to the bathroom, where she heard Rita call out in frustration from the next stall. Teenie passed her a tampon and reassured her that Native men don't care. Rita said she was sure a niece had scooped him. Teenie was used to that because city men wouldn't look at any woman who was older than 25. Rita said she just wanted to feel sexy again.
Rita and Teenie went back to a room together and Rita said that Teenie's life looked good from her point of view. Teenie, on the other hand, wanted Rita's life. They ended up watching movies together.
The next morning, they were all hungover as they left the hotel to go back home.[3]
Bringing the Rez Dogs Home[]
When the Rez Dogs left Oklahoma to go to Los Angeles, Teenie was dispatched to go to Los Angeles to bring them home. She found the kids with White Jesus, whom she thanked for looking after them. Then she told the kids they'd be taking the bus home.
In Amarillo, they had a wait to transfer to the bus to Okern. While they were waiting, Teenie called her work and pretended to be sick. Despite this, Teenie told Elora she was pretty sure she was going to lose her job. She told Elora about her work and said that while it wasn't a bad job and she liked her life in Phoenix, she sometimes missed home. Then she told Elora that adults are messed up too, even more than kids. You still have all the same problems you had as a kid, but you also have baggage.
On their second bus, Elora offered Teenie a place to stay. Teenie said that while Elora looked like Cookie, some of her expressions reminded Teenie of her dad. Elora was shocked to hear Teenie talk about her dad, as no one else ever had. Mabel had said she wouldn't speak about the dead, but Teenie told her that her dad was still alive and he and Teenie were even Facebook friends. Teenie further surprised Elora by telling her that her dad is white. She knew she part white, but had no idea that her father was fully white.
When the bus arrived in Okern, Teenie was surprised to find that Bear wasn't with them.[4]
Fixico's Funeral[]
When Old Man Fixico died, Teenie was one of the many who came to mourn him. She said she had the week off and came to help the other women cook for everyone.[5]
