Satvrday is the eighth and final episode of the first season and eighth episode overall of Reservation Dogs.
Synopsis[]
The Reservation Dogs try their hand at being vigilantes as a tornado rolls into town.
Plot[]
Spirit watches Bear sleep from his window. Finally, he throws bread at Bear to wake him up. Bear wakes up and Spirit says he had a vision of Bear's ancestors, telling him to go visit Bear. It might interest him to know he has colonizers in his line, fairly recently. His great-grandma Susie liked to smash white guys. Bear says they're finally going to California today. Spirit's excited about that. They have a lot of money saved up, so they're hitting the road. Spirit is proud that he's leaving this place better than it was, leaving nothing left undone. Bear asks if he's implying he should fight the bad guy gang. Spirit isn't implying anything. Spirit has another vision to do, so he has to go.
Willie Jack and her mom, Dana, sit in silence at the table as they eat. Leon sings at the sink as he does dishes. Willie Jack quietly hands him a gift card and tells him it's his anniversary. The gift card is for dinner for two at the casino buffet. Leon realizes she stole it. Willie Jack then loudly asks Dana if Leon gave her her present yet. She asks for what and Willie Jack says their anniversary. Dana pretends she forgot. Leon comes in and gives her the gift card. It's $50, but he says she's worth it.
Cheese is at Grandma Irene's. It's his move in chess. He plays and then says he has something to tell her. He says he's not her grandson and she says he is even if he isn't. He wanted to tell her that because he and his friends are moving to California soon.
Elora takes the car keys and thanks Grandma Mabel for everything. Mabel says to put gas in it when she's done.
Uncle Brownie rides a lawn mower. He meets up with Willie Jack, Elora, Cheese, and Bear. He tells them he just borrowed the cart from the hardware store, where he was looking for an ax. He shows them his hand is shaking. Willie Jack says it's detox shakes and her uncle has those. Cheese says they have meetings for that. Uncle Brownie says when his hand shakes like that, it means a tornado is coming. They look around, but doubt it based on the weather. If they have an ax, he can stop it. All he needs is an ax and some tobacco. He can make it go in another direction. They don't believe that's true. He leaves, saying they're wasting his time.
Bear is worried Mabel will report them as car thieves, but Elora says they'll be long gone. Today's the day. She and Bear count the money they've saved. They finally have the money to get there and take care of themselves. Willie Jack says she's not going. They ask what she'll do and she says she'll do whatever she wants. Elora is upset that she's bailing and says the rez eats people. She asks if Cheese is out, too, and he says no. Bear also says he's going. Willie Jack says they're still her friends. She pulls money out of her sock and gives it to Elora. It's her cut to help them get there. She'll visit when she can. Elora asks if anyone else wants to share something. Bear admits he's been seeing a Spirit for a while, a Lakota warrior who died at Little Bighorn. He said they have unfinished business. They have to fight the NDN Mafia once and for all. Elora says they don't need to do that. They're leaving. Willie Jack thinks the ancestors are telling them to do something and they need to honor them.
White Steve is dancing while Bone Thug Dog, Weeze, and Jackie watch. Jackie's bored. At least in the city, they had stuff to do. Bone Thug Dog suggests they get high. Jackie says she has a job.
Mose and Mekko also don't believe Brownie will be able to deter the tornado. Brownie says he has powers they don't know about. He can flatten their tires with a single whistle. They ride away. Big pulls up behind Brownie.
The Rez Dogs face off with the NDN Mafia, taunting each other. Cheese stops them and points out that there's a tornado coming. After a moment, they start in again.
Old Man Fixico and another man watch the fight from a distance.
Big says Brownie has warrants and the lawn mower he's driving is stolen. Brownie says he has no jurisdiction, but Big says he's a tribal cop. Brownie thinks he's a traitor.
Elora is shocked when a large hail stone drops at her feet. Thunder rumbles and more hail stones fall. They all take off running.
Brownie and Big find shelter on a porch. Big tells Brownie he got lucky. He needs to take the lawn mower back while Big heads to the church. Brownie says if Big has an ax, he can stop the tornado. Big says he's lucky Big's not arresting him.
The rez dogs head for the church.
Big lights a candle and passes it around. Leon asks why they're using candles and flips on the light. When Bear and Jackie realize they're sitting next to each other, they recoil. The two groups start taunting each other again until Big tells them to stop. Jackie asks if Big ever found out who took the chip truck. Big says no and asks if they have information. Jackie says no. The two groups started taunting each other again, at a whisper.
Brownie bangs on the windows of a friend's house. When he gets no answer, he opens the garage and takes an ax.
Big shows Leon a video which he claims proves the moon landing was faked.
Elora can't wait to leave. She gets up and walks away. Bear asks the security guard if he saw his mom today. The guard asks who his mom is, making Bear realize he hasn't. He texted his mom twice and got no answer. Willie Jack thinks maybe her phone might be dead. He sends another text. Mose and Mekko get up and start rapping. When they finish, White Steve takes his turn. When he finished, the crowd applauds.
Brownie walks around with the ax. He finds a ladder and uses it to get on top of a house.
Bear asks if Willie Jack has seen Elora. She saw her go upstairs with Jackie. Maybe they're figuring it out one on one. Steve comes up to them and asks for some water.
Bear watches from above as Jackie and Elora talk in a pew. Spirit appears and wonders what they're talking about. He tells Bear he shouldn't interfere with the ways of women. Bear doesn't know what they have to talk about. Spirit once accidental went into the Women's Society Lodge and what he saw in there shook him to his core. He says Bear's been doing good things, helping the people. But there's still something Bear hasn't taken care of and he knows that. Bear says he tried to fight them, but then the tornado came. Spirit says maybe that wasn't what he was talking about. Spirit tells Bear Elora and Jackie are moving. Bear takes off so he can follow them.
Bear comes back to the basement and sits down between Cheese and Elora when Cheese won't move over. Bear asks Elora if she shouldn't be sitting next to her new friends. He saw her talking to Jackie. Elora is upset that he spied on her and says it's not his business. Then she saw she was talking to Jackie to get more money for California, but Bear says they have enough. Elora says she has money, but he spent his on the stuff for his dad. She's sick of always cleaning up after him. He suggests she just go to California herself. He says he was with her, stealing things, but she was the one who did all the saving. She got the car. She got the license. Bear doesn't have a license. Bear never wanted to go to California in the first place and now he's going to mooch off her the entire way. His dad would be proud. Bear is hurt that she would say that. At least he's going for the right reasons. She's not the only one who thinks about Daniel, but Bear thinks about him when he was alive and Elora can't stop thinking about how he's dead. Elora says Bear didn't have to see it. She moves away from him. Willie Jack stands up and asks everyone else to stand. She tells everyone that it's her parents' anniversary. They deserve all the happiness in the world because they're good parents, not just to her, but also to Daniel and her friends. Since Daniel's been gone, she hasn't seen them happy and she doesn't blame them because she hasn't been happy either. That's why she's going to stick around because she won't have them for the rest of her life. She has so much more to learn from them. She tells them happy anniversary and says she loves them. The crowd applauds and Big says he remembers before they were married. Cheese calls attention to himself and says he's not going to California either.
Brownie stands on the roof and holds up the ax, telling the tornado he's not scared of it and to go away.
As everyone leaves the church basement, Old Man Fixico says they'll rebuild. They're surprised to see that everything is as it was. They figure the tornado missed them. Elora angrily walks away from the others. Bear thinks it's his fault because he said some things he shouldn't have said. But they'll talk about it in the car. Bear guesses this is goodbye. Willie Jack asks him to send them pictures of the ocean. Cheese says to watch out for smog. They all hug.
Bear comes home to find his mom, which is a relief. She asks if he's okay, if he went to the basement. He says he did, then hugs his mom and says he loves her. She goes inside to make dinner, saying they'll eat at the table.
Elora looks at the memorial to Daniel.
Mose and Mekko pass Bear, pushing their bikes which have flat tires.
Elora picks up Jackie, who is ready to go and has gas money. Jackie finds an empty jar in the front seat and Elora says that's Uncle Brownie's weed jar. Jackie throws it in the back, commenting that it must be nice not to have to see him again. Or anyone else in town. Elora says yes. Jackie says everything in the city is better. People stick to themselves and don't mess with anyone else.
Bear sits at the curb.
Brownie wakes up in a field, still holding the ax. He's unharmed, but totally nude. He holds up the ax and it disintegrates. Spirit calls to him for a distance and he asks if Spirit has seen his clothes. Spirit says they went to the place where spirits go. They heard his prayer, but had to take something in return. It was either his clothes or his life. Brownie asks if Spirit is there to take him and Spirit says no. He's there to guide Brownie, to show him the good life.
