Run is the second episode of the second season and tenth episode overall of Reservation Dogs.

Synopsis[]

Elora and Jackie's road trip takes a turn for the worse.

Plot[]

Jackie and Elora run as they're chased by three men with guns in a truck. They runs off the road, but the truck follows them as they run through a field. They hide behind hay bales, but the men find them. They keep running and are finally able to hide. They hear the men yelling at them, then leaving.

White Steve films Weeze preparing to jump off the roof.

Willie Jack sees this and has Bucky stop and let her out. She asks if they have any of Jackie's stuff. Steve says no. She left, so they forgot about her. Willie Jack explains about the curse and Steve says he told them bad things were happening. The other day, his car just caught on fire. And Bone Thug Dog got shot with a little people arrow. Weeze's meemaw, Betty Smith, died. As Steve eulogizes her, Weeze falls off the roof. Bone Thug Dog agrees to give Willie Jack what she needs. He hands Willie Jack Jackie's bandana. Weeze gives her something as well. White Steve finally hands her some eyeliner. As they talk about that, Brownie pulls up and calls out to them. Brownie and Bucky face off against each other. Bucky says he once knocked some of Brownie's teeth out, but Brownie's recollection is that he knocked Bucky out. Brownie says tomorrow morning, they'll go to the river. Bucky reluctantly agrees that he's right.

Mose and Mekko find Bear walking alone and ask him what's wrong and where the other Rez Dogs are. He says Elora left with Jackie and left him in the trenches. They say it's hard to lose the leader, but he disagrees that she's the leader. They ask what about second-in-command Willie Jack. Bear says she's off doing kid stuff. He asks if they know anyone who's hiring. They are looking for someone to do social media promotion, but they can't pay him. He walks away from them.

Elora and Jackie walk through some woods and cross a fence. They hear chickens in the distance, which means eggs. They're both hungry, but agree to wait until dark to steal some. They both lie back on the ground. They hear an eagle, which Elora takes as a good sign, but Jackie thinks it's a buzzard instead.

Elora and Jackie get up when they hear an off-road vehicle approaching. Anna tells them it's okay. She is checking on them. She saw them out there and came to see if they want to come inside and eat. They can stay out if they want, but she has food and an empty house. They get into her vehicle and tell her their names are Mariah and Carey.

Anna says she has a big, empty house. Her husband left her, so she suggests they don't get married. She tells them dinner will be a minute, so they can shower and watch their clothes if they like. She puts her keys in a dish by the door and tells them to make themselves at home.

As Jackie showers, Elora looks at the pictures on Anna's wall. Everyone in them looks happy. Anna says they were. It's weird to be starting over at her age. Her kids are off at college. She asks if they're running away. Elora says they are. Anna's jealous of them. She always wanted to run away. Maybe she'll go with them and pay for gas. She really would go.

Anna puts food on the table, saying she's not used to cooking for one person. She's made her famous spaghetti taco casserole. Anna asks if it's okay if she prays. When they say yes, she holds out her hands. After a minute, they take them and Anna says a prayer, thanking God for the food and asking him to protect Elora and Jackie from them. She also asks for some comeuppance for her husband and Joanne. She tells them to help themselves and asks Jackie to pass her the rolls and ranch dressing, which she says go well together. Since Ed left, it's all carbs all the time.

Elora and Jackie enter different bedrooms upstairs and look around. Elora climbs into bed and starts crying. Jackie opens the door and sees her crying, then goes back to her own room and climbs into the bed.

At 4:14 AM, Jackie sneaks downstairs and takes Anna's keys. She gets in Anna's truck.

At 4:30, Elora dreams of Daniel. She asks him what's wrong and he asks why she didn't take him to California. Then she hears Bear asking the same question. Elora wakes up to Jackie's hand over her face. Jackie has Anna's keys in her hand. She warns Elora to be quiet as they slip out.

Jackie starts the truck and they pull out of the driveway. Anna watches from her window and sighs.

Elora asks Jackie if she feels bad about stealing the truck and for everything. People were just trying to help them. Jackie doesn't feel bad about anything. Anna seemed happy to her. She'd take that life any day.

Bucky and Brownie lead Willie Jack and Cheese through the process. Brownie prays to Creator, making specific references to Bucky and him previously sleeping with Bucky's girlfriend while they were broken up. Bucky interjects with his own feelings. Brownie takes back over, apologizing. Bucky goes again, forgiving Brownie. They step up to the edge of the water. Brownie tosses Jackie's things in the water and he and Bucky sing Free Fallin'. From the other bank, Spirit watches and comments that he knows the song better than they do. When they finish the song, Spirit tells Brownie to tell the kids the ceremony is complete. They have ended the curse, but the effects will linger in their hearts until they deal with the guilt inside. Brownie just tells the kids the curse is gone, but they need to stop being shitasses. Spirit says that's close enough.

As Bear eats and goes through the classifieds, Cleo asks how one person can eat so much catfish. Rob doesn't get it either. Bear says catfish is life. He says they should give him a job because of how much catfish he eats. Rob says no, because of all the candy Cheese has stolen, plus everything else the Rez Dogs have stolen. Cleo says he should volunteer there once a week to make up for it. Miles comes in with a chip delivery. He goes to get a cup of coffee before unloading them. Bear sees him and clams up. Miles sits in the booth next to Bear and sees that he's looking for a job. Miles has been there. Miles, Rob, and Cleo start laughing. Miles knows Bear and his friends stole the truck. Bear tries to deny it. Miles says insurance covered the truck and he got to keep his job and his foot. They don't need more young folk in jail. It's easy to tear things down, but harder to build them up. He wants Bear to consider this his one big break, because with the snap of a finger, his life could have taken a big turn. He tells Bear to build things up instead of tearing them down. Bear thanks him for not turning them in. Miles tells him to thank Rob and Cleo, too, because they got the kids on video. Rob even posted it on Facebook. They watched it a bunch of times. Miles says he's going to finish his coffee, then Bear needs to help him unload his truck as a thank you. Bear agrees.

Jackie and Elora pull up to a motel. Johnny Boy greets them. Jackie introduces him to Elora. Jackie asks if she's still inside and Johnny Boy says she's in the same spot. Jackie tells Elora she can come in. Johnny Boy asks where the truck came from and Jackie says the truck store.

Jackie and Elora enter one of the rooms. Jackie wakes her mom. Her mom asks if Bev kicked her out. Jackie says no. She's just passing through. Jackie asks if she can borrow gas money. Her mom says she can give her $20. Jackie hands her her purse and she pulls out the $20 and says that's all she's got as she drops it on the floor, forcing Jackie to pick it up. Her mom tells her to give that place a chance because Jackie needs it.

Jackie asks Johnny Boy for help. She asks if he has a chain to pull a car.

Willie Jack tells Daniel that after that, they left it up to Creator.

Bear helps Miles unload the chips. Bear asks if he's hiring, but Miles won't hire a thief.

Jackie and Elora tow Mabel's car.

Willie Jack wishes Daniel were there as he'd straighten it all back out.
