History[]
Feud with Maximus[]
Fixico and Maximus are cousins. As children, they played together and got along, but as teens, their relationship deteriorated and Maximus was angered by Fixico's presence. This was worsened when Fixico began training as a medicine man, because Maximus claimed he was acting holier-than-thou, and called him a poison man. At a party, Fixico told Maximus that their grandmother asked about him and said he welcome at her house anytime, but that only made Maximus angrier.[1]
NDN Clinic[]
Old Man Fixico set up his table outside the NDN clinic, selling "real medicine." When Elora, who was sitting nearby with Willie Jack selling meat pies, starting having abdominal pain, Willie Jack asked if he had anything for stomachaches. He looked at his table and then said he didn't.[2]
Tornado[]
Fixico sheltered in the church basement with many others in town when a tornado hit. After the tornado had passed and they were walking out, he said they'd rebuild, but found it wasn't necessary as the tornado had missed them.[3]
Helping Bucky[]
When Bucky complained about Bethany kicking him out again, Fixico gave him a book called "Man Moon," which he claimed would fix the problem.[4]
Mabel's Death[]
As Mabel died, Fixico burned cedar and prayed at her bedside.[5]
NARDS Youth Summit[]
Fixico started the NARDS Youth Summit by having everyone join hands, then he said they were the first people to walk the land and then the greedy whites took it. Then he had them face different directions, causing confusion as they tried to figure out which direction they should be facing.[6]
Teaching Willie Jack[]
One week, while Fixico was selling his wares outside the IHS, Mose and Mekko asked him for something to ward off haters online. He gave them something with instructions and Willie Jack asked how he always knew what to give people. He said he didn't and he always gave Mose and Mekko, frequent customers, stinkweed. When Willie Jack brought him some snacks, he said he would miss things like meat pies and explained that he knew his time was coming. She asked him who would doctor people up after he was gone. He didn't know as he didn't have anyone to pass it onto. She told him she was interested and he agreed to start teaching her. She sat with him for the rest of the day until the other Rez dogs finished their work and they left to go to Sonic.[7]
Willie Jack continued to learn from Fixico. When Rita came in one day looking rough, Fixico had Willie Jack give her something to help. Willie Jack gave her Flamin' Flamers, saying they would fix her right up. Fixico agreed.[8]
Heart Attack and Death[]
At the Elder Breakfast, Fixico sat with Willie Jack, Grandma Irene, and Wotko. They talked about how they weren't as young as they used to be and how they used to hang out together when they were. After the breakfast, Fixico collapsed due to a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital, where things didn't look good. Willie Jack and the rest of the teens went to Tulsa, where the found Fixico's estranged brother-cousin Maximus and brought him back to the hospital, where the two held hands as Maximus sat by Fixico's bedside.[9] Fixico died shortly afterward and the community gathered to mourn him.[10]
