Reservation Dogs Wiki

Elora Danan Postoak is one of the Reservation Dogs.

History[]

Daniel's Death[]

One evening, Elora, Willie Jack, Bear, Cheese, and Daniel were walking home. When they approached Daniel's house, they could hear fighting inside. Elora suggested they go for a walk, but Bear, Willie Jack, and Cheese couldn't join, so it was just her and Daniel. They went to a bar, where Daniel tried to break into some cars until Elora persuaded him to come inside, where they danced and drank. After a while, Elora wanted to leave, so Daniel went outside with her. When she noticed he wasn't going the right way to go home, he admitted he couldn't go home. She told him he could text her if he needed her before going home herself. The next morning, she went to Daniel's window with catfish, but he wasn't there. So she went to their hideout, where she found Daniel's body hanging from the ceiling. She held his legs and cried.[2]

Stealing the Chip Truck and Memorial for Daniel[]

Elora, along with Willie Jack, Bear, and Cheese, watched as a truck driver left his truck to make a delivery. While he was inside, the four of them stole the truck and drove away in it. While Elora drove and Bear rode in the wrong, Willie Jack and Cheese rode in the back, where they failed to pull in the ramp before Elora took off. They drove the truck to the salvage yard, where they sold it to Kenny Boy, who sold them all the chips inside for a dollar.

They sold the chips in Bear's front yard. While they were selling the chips, they noticed three teens watching them from across the street. While they were collecting the money they'd made, Big drove up and asked if they knew anything about a chip truck that was stolen in town. They all pretended they didn't know anything about it. He told them about a recent increase in crime and listed several things they'd done. He also tried to scare them by mentioning that the Deer Lady had been spotted in the area recently.

Once they finished selling their chips, they decided to grab a bite to eat at Rob-n-Cleo's. On the way, Elora said she believed they'd be able to relocate to California in two months, which surprised them. While they were walking, a car drove up beside them, carrying the same teens who had been watching them. Those teens pulled out their guns and began shooting paintballs at the four of them, then said that street was their territory. Once of their paintballs knocked Bear unconscious.

When Bear woke up, Mose and Mekko rode up and told them the new teens were calling themselves the NDN Mafia, consisting of Jackie, her cousins Bone Thug Dog and Weeze, and their friend White Steve. Mose and Mekko had told the NDN Mafia that the four of them were the Reservation Bandits, the toughest in town. They warned the four of them to be careful.

At Rob-n-Cleo's, they ordered catfish. After their food was delivered, they overheard Miles, a truck driver, talking to Rob about how his truck had been stolen. As a result, he'd been fired and his wife left him.

On their way back to the hideout, Bear said he felt bad for what they did to the driver and wanted to get the truck back to give it back to him. Willie Jack and Elora didn't feel bad and got mad that Bear did. Elora stormed off after saying they didn't owe anyone in that town anything.

Elora returned later that night and looked at a picture of Daniel.

The next day, Elora gave Bear her share of the money to buy the truck back from Kenny Boy. Unfortunately, they learned that Kenny Boy had already stripped it.

The four of them held a memorial for Daniel to mark one year since his death. As they left the memorial, the NDN Mafia drove buy, showing that they'd stolen copper that the four of them were planning to steal. They walked home and Mose and Mekko warned them that the NDN Mafia was after rhyme and they'd given the four of them a new name: The Reservation Dogs. Elora wanted to gather the money they had saved and leave right away, but Bear said he didn't want to let Jackie and her crew chase them out of town. He wanted them to become vigilantes.[3]

Clinic Day[]

Elora went with Willie Jack and the other Rez Dogs to the clinic so Willie Jack could sell her meat pies. Elora sat with her for a while until she started having stomach pains, leading her to go inside the clinic to get treatment. Once she got checked in, she went back outside to wait. She eventually got called back and Dr. Kang, upon learning she ate several bags of chips per day, told her to stop doing that. Back outside, the Rez Dogs watched as the NDN Mafia drove up and the two groups went face to face, goading each other, until Rita broke it up.[4]

Learning from Brownie[]

Elora, Willie Jack, and Bear decided to go find Elora's Uncle Brownie to teach them to fight. On their way, they found a deer that had been hit by a car and loaded it into the trunk to make backstrap. Then they drove out to Uncle Brownie's place in the woods to find him. Willie Jack also had a bag of Jackie's hair and hoped to get Brownie to put a curse on Jackie with it. They were immediately creeped out by Brownie's place and when he spotted them, he told them to leave because it wasn't safe for children to be there. They reluctantly started to leave, but stopped when he celebrated after finding a jar he'd previously buried. He told them it was weed he'd buried fifteen years prior. He agreed to give them some fighting tips in exchange for them driving him around town to sell his weed. They did so, but no one was interested in buying it. Finally, he realized he knew who would want it. He had the kids take him to the bar where he'd knocked out twenty people and one cop in two minutes. They were not happy to see him initially and told them that it was actually thirty people and two cops. But when Brownie offered them the weed and Elora sweetened the deal with some backstrap, they welcomed him back in.[5]

Wellness Fair[]

Bear learned that his father was coming back to Oklahoma for the anti-diabetes Wellness Fair, so he recruited the other Rez Dogs to help him get things ready to see his dad again. At the grocery store, he sent each of them to get a different thing. Elora was assigned to get plastic utensils and while getting them, she ran into Jackie, who had noticed the other Rez Dogs weren't as serious as she was about going to California. She offered Elora a place in the NDN Mafia, but Elora said no.

Bear wanted to get his father a gift, so they went next to Auntie B, who does beadwork. She offered him a steep discount because he was Willie Jack's friend. None of the pieces were what he was looking for, so he asked if she could make him a new one. She agreed, but charged an extra $50 for the rush job, which irritated Elora. Bear promised he'd make the money back.

The next morning, they picked up the medallion and were surprised to see how phallic it looked, a trend among her work. Bear took it anyway and continued to prepare for his father's visit. When Punkin didn't show up and lied about why, Bear and Rita ended up back at their home, watching Godzilla with the other Rez Dogs.[6]

Driving Test[]

In order to be able to drive to California, Elora needed to get a license, so she went to the DMV to take her test for the fourth time, having failed it three times already. Cassidy had her sign a paper and then sent her outside to wait for her instructor. She was surprised when her high school basketball coach, Garrett Bobson, was there to do her test. He hadn't seen her since she got fouled out of a game, leading to her getting into a fight and then walking off the court and out of school entirely. She told him she left school because she needed to work. They got into Elora's car and started the test. She said she needed to pass because she was going to California. When he warned her her car wouldn't make it all the way to California, she said it was her grandma's car and it wasn't the one she was planning to take with her. When the time came for Elora to parallel park, she ended up hitting one of the other cars and then cried, saying she had no one to teach her how to drive and he should just fail her. He had her move over to the passenger side, saying he would give her a quick lesson, but ended up hitting the car himself. Then he got a call and drove off with Elora. They went to a motel, where he went inside with a gun and left Elora in the car. She texted her location to Bear, Willie Jack, and Cheese in case she died. A few minutes later, after a gunshot, Bobson came back to the car and told Elora to drive. As they drove away, Elora's taillight was broken by an angry man who was trying to chase Bobson. Bobson explained that the woman who had run out was his daughter Ashley, who was using drugs. He was worried she had died until he got the call that someone had seen her. Elora drove around for a while so he could search for her, but they couldn't figure out where she'd gone. He was sure he would get fired for leaving work or at least for shooting a methhead in the knee, but Elora said they could just say she broke down and she wouldn't rat him out. Bobson knew her taillight was broken and said he couldn't send her home like that.

She drove to the junkyard, where Kenny Boy agreed to fix the taillight and promised to try to do it within an hour. While they waited, Elora and Bobson played basketball. She asked him if he knew what happened to her mom, because they only told her it was a wreck. Bobson said they were all drinking and they tried to stop Rodney, Cookie's boyfriend, from driving, and Uncle Brownie even got into a fight with him over it, but he ended up driving anyway and crashed. Bobson was devastated because he loved Cookie. She used to call him Cokoce, which she told him meant great white warrior.

After the taillight was fixed, Elora dropped Bobson off at home. He told her she'd passed her test and wished her luck in California. She then told him cukoce meant toilet, not great white warrior. Bobson laughed and said he'd told people that story for years and no one ever corrected him. He said Cookie had a sense of humor.[7]

Tornado and Leaving for California[]

On the day the Rez Dogs were planning to leave for California, Elora took her grandma's car keys and thanked her for everything. Her only response was to tell Elora to put gas in the car when she was done.

Elora met up with the other Rez Dogs and they were approached by Brownie, who said a tornado was coming and he could get rid of it if he had an ax. They didn't believe him, so he left, saying they were wasting his time. They continued to the hideout, where they counted the money they'd saved one last time. Willie Jack then announced she wasn't going with them, which angered Elora. Willie Jack said they were still friends and even gave them her share of the money to help them. Bear then said he'd been visited a few times by a Spirit who said he had unfinished business, which he took to mean they needed to fight the NDN Mafia before they could leave. Elora didn't think they needed to, but Willie Jack said the ancestors were trying to tell them something and they needed to honor them.

They found the NDN Mafia and the two groups began taunting each other. They stopped when Cheese pointed out that a tornado was coming, but quickly resumed until hail started falling, forcing them to run to the church to seek shelter. At the church, Elora slipped away with Jackie to talk about Jackie coming with them and bringing more money into the group. Bear spotted them talking and confronted Elora about it. She was angry that he spied on her and said they were talking about Jackie getting them more money for California, because Bear kept spending the money on his dad while Elora had to pick up the slack. She was sure he would end up mooching off her the entire time they were in California, so he suggested she just go by herself. Shortly after this, Cheese announced that he wasn't going to California.

When the storm passed, Elora walked away, leaving the others behind to say goodbye. Then she went and picked up Jackie, who was ready to go and had gas money. They drove away, leaving everyone else behind.[8]

As they left town, Elora's GPS messed up and Jackie couldn't get it on her phone, so they stopped to buy an atlas. Jackie also got a fortune from a "Medicine Man" vending machine that warned her to turn from the path she was on. They bought some snacks and a knife along with the atlas, then got back on the road. They were forced to pull over when the car broke down. They took their bags and began walking along the side of the road. As a car approached, they stuck out their thumbs and Victor picked them up, saying he could get them as far as Amarillo. As he drove, he started talking to them about his job and his son, from whom he was estranged. When he asked if they were teenage girls, they became uncomfortable. When he turned off the main road, claiming he was heading to a gas station, they told him to pull over. When he didn't, Jackie kicked him in the face and Elora stabbed him. He pulled over and told them to get out, which they did, leaving their bags behind.

With a few dollars from Jackie's pocket, they got some catfish. Elora told Jackie about Daniel and Jackie said her brother died, too.

Jackie and Elora then started walking. They decided to steal a car, but the owners saw them and some men in a truck started chase them as they fled on foot, firing their guns in the air.[9]

They ran off the road, but the truck followed them. They were finally able to hide behind some hay bales and the men drove off. They walked for a while and crossed a fence. They could hear chickens in the distance, which they knew meant eggs. They decided to wait until dark to steal some and they lay back on the ground to wait. While they waited, Anna, the owner of the property, drove out to check on them and invited them into the house to eat. They went with her and she let them shower while she fixed dinner. After dinner, they both went up to bed. Early the next morning, they stole Anna's keys and took her truck.

They drove back to Jackie's home and got some cash from her mother, who was emotionally closed off. As they left, Jackie asked her friend Johnny Boy if he had a chain to tow a car. They used that to tow Mabel's car home.[10]

Mabel's Death[]

Back in Oklahoma, Elora learned that Mabel was dying. She went to Bear's window to tell him. He yelled at her for leaving without him, but she stopped him and told him Mabel was dying.[11]

Many people from town gathered at Mabel's house to share memories, eat together, and see her off. Teenie also came back from the city for this and introduced herself to Elora, whom she hadn't seen since she was a toddler.

Once the meal was ready, Elora asked Cheese to say a prayer. He did and everyone ate. After people were finished, Jackie and Elora did the dishes together. Jackie asked Elora if they would get back on the road once everything was settled and Elora said they would.

Elora was surprised to hear the aunties say that Mabel was so welcoming and took such good care of them as she'd always been cold and distant with Elora. Rita said that Mabel changed when Cookie died and never really came back from it.

Elora went back to sit next to Mabel's bed. She put chapstick on her lips and wondered since when was she sweet.

Teenie asked Elora what she was planning to do with the house, as it would go to her once Mabel died. She said Elora could make it her own or she could fix it up and sell it then use the money to go to school. Teenie said she'd moved away when Cookie died because she didn't know what else to do. She was there when Elora was born though and held her while Cookie slept.

Early the next morning, Brownie woke Elora and Teenie and told them it was time. They sat by Mabel's bed as she took her final breaths. Overwhelmed, Elora then went outside to get some air. Mabel appeared to her as spirit, telling her she did good and warning her not to give away the blue willow dish set.[12]

NARDS Youth Summit[]

Elora came to the NARDS Youth Summit with Jackie. Elora was paired with Cheese to do the potato dance together while holding a potato between their foreheads. They danced for a while before their potato dropped.

At lunch, Elora got an extra frybread, which she gave to Bear.

For the next event, Bear was blindfolded and Elora had to lead him through a maze by talking to him. When he didn't follow her directions properly, they started arguing. She said she was trying and he said he was too. She asked if they were good and he said he wasn't sure. Despite this, they won the challenge.

When Jackie left without her, Elora went to ask Cheese and Bear if they'd seen her. This led to another argument. Bear was upset that Elora was taking Jackie's side over Willie Jack's. Bear was also angry that Elora hadn't apologized for leaving him behind. Elora said she was sorry that she hurt Bear, but she wasn't sorry that she left. She told him he was living in kid drama and couldn't see outside himself to see how sorry she was. Then she walked away, telling him not to talk to her for a while.

Jackie later texted Elora to apologize for leaving abruptly and Elora didn't reply.[13]

Cheese's Arrest[]

Elora was waiting a wall in her house when Bear, Willie Jack, and Jackie came to her window and told her that Cheese had been arrested. The four of them went to the group home where Cheese was being held and Elora knocked on the door while the others went around the side to talk to Cheese. She told Gene that she was Cheese's auntie and she was there to take him home with her, but he said even if he believed that, Cheese was in his custody until the court said otherwise.

After Grandma Irene was named Cheese's new legal guardian and he was released from the group home to move into her house, they all welcomed him home with "Free Cheese" shirts.[14]

Midstreamers[]

Willie Jack, Bear, Elora, and Cheese were eating catfish and watching TV when a news report came on about the Midstreamers, who fornicated with catfish. All four of them were put off their food.[15]

Daniel's Letter[]

Willie Jack invited her friends over and cooked for them. They sat in silence until Willie Jack told them she'd visited Hokti and she got her advice for how to fix them. Bear and Elora immediately claimed that everything was fine between them, but Cheese and Willie Jack knew that wasn't true. She told them about Daniel's letter and said she wanted to read it with them. They passed it around and read it to themselves. When they were finished, they decided to fulfill Daniel's dream together, because he couldn't.[16]

Trip to California[]

With the decision made, The Rez Dogs, with Jackie's help, went to steal Mabel's car back form the scrapyard. Kenny Boy interrupted them, but let them have the car anyway. They packed up the car and left for California. They were all excited to fulfill Daniel's dream for him. They thought about what they would do when they got to the ocean and Bear suggested putting Daniel's letter in, because it was like a piece of Daniel and he'd alway wanted to go to the ocean.

Over the next few days, they made their way across the country to California. With only a few miles left, they stopped at a taco place and got food. When they went to pay, Bear realized they left the money in the car. Willie Jack went to get it, but found the car missing. While they stood outside in the empty lot and discussed what to do, White Jesus found them and said he'd take them to the ocean. Instead, he led them to an encampment and promised to take him to the ocean in the morning. They decided to stay and sleep in shifts, which they did until the cops came and forced them to leave.

They decided to continue their walk on their own. They were delighted when they finally heard the sounds of the ocean in the distance, which encouraged them to walk the final stretch. Once on the beach, they looked out into the ocean for a moment and then walked toward the water. Elora held back, saying she didn't want to say goodbye to Daniel. Bear corrected that they were only saying goodbye to the pain. They all walked into the water together. Cheese said a prayer and they held each other, imagining Daniel standing with them. Then Cheese asked what they should do next. Elora said she wanted to find her car because she had to take it back to Kenny Boy's. Willie Jack said she had an uncle at a rez nearby who could probably help. Bear then said he wasn't going back to Oklahoma.[17]

Return to Okern[]

While they were in LA, Bear insisted on going to see Punkin to give him the beadwork even after Punkin didn't answer his phone call. He was surprised when a woman answered the door and said that Punkin had left to go on tour, leaving the woman alone with two kids, presumably Bear's half-siblings. After leaving Punkin's, they found White Jesus again and waited with him while Teenie traveled to Los Angeles to pick them up.

Teenie got them on a bus to Amarillo, where they would transfer to the bus to Okern after waiting for an hour. With fifteen minutes left, Elora went to find Teenie, who was worried she was going to lose her job for taking off to get the kids. Teenie told Elora that adults were just as messed up as kids, because they had the same problems plus all of the baggage.

On the bus, Elora offered to let Teenie stay at her house. Teenie then told her that while she looked like Cookie, her expressions reminded Elora of her father. Elora was surprised to hear Teenie talk about her father, as no one ever had and she'd always assumed her father was driving the bike the night Cookie died. Mabel had always said she wouldn't speak of the dead. Teenie told her that her father wasn't dead and in fact, he and Teenie were Facebook friends. She said Elora could meet him if she wanted. When they got back to Okern, they were greeted by friends and family.[18]

Punishment[]

Elora and the other Rez Dogs were gathered at the IHS to be punished for leaving without telling anyone. Despite Elora reminding them that she was 18, she was still punished. She was assigned to collect all the trash. While she was working, Leon offered to teach her how to do his job so she could take over for him. She told him she wasn't interested as she was thinking about going to school. While she was working, she went to the front desk and asked Bev for her records so she could apply to school. Once she got them, she looked at them to find that her father was named Rick Miller. After they'd all finished their work, they left together to go to Sonic.[1]

Cheese's Withdrawal[]

Elora, Bear, and Willie Jack became concerned when Cheese started making excuses through his grandma not to hang out with them. When they went to get him one day and were told he was sick, they asked Irene to tell him they missed him. Later that day, Cheese called them from his camping trip and had them join.[19]

Rita's Visit[]

Elora was at home when Rita came to visit. Rita was acting odd, so Elora asked her if everything was okay. Rita admitted that she'd been offered a promotion that could mean moving. Elora said she was also figuring out what to do next and was applying to college. Rita said that her mother would be proud of her and told her that her aunties were always there for her if she needed them. She confessed to Rita that she sometimes felt like Cookie was still around. She didn't really know Cookie at all, but sometimes, she just felt warm, a feeling Rita understood.[20]

Retrieving Maximus[]

When Fixico collapsed and had a heart attack at Elder Breakfast, Willie Jack went to the other teens and proposed they go get Fixico's estranged cousin out of the psychiatric hospital where he was staying. They got a bus from Kenny Boy and took off for Tulsa where they executed their plan to distract the staff and sneak him out. Elora went with Cheese and Jackie to cut the phone lines, using Cheese's knowledge of video games to cut the right lines. The plan worked and Willie Jack and Bear found Maximus. They got him back out to the bus and left. On the way home, the bus started smoking and Kenny Boy told everyone to get off. They did and just as they were off, the bus burst into flames. When they got home, Maximus and Fixico were reunited at Fixico's bedside. When Big found out what they'd done, he brought them all in for interrogations, though he didn't believe Willie Jack when she told him the truth. At the end of the day, Kenny Boy took full responsibility and claimed the kids weren't even there.[21]

Meeting Rick[]

Elora went to University of Oklahoma and met with Debbie about her options for school. Debbie informed her that since her mother was dead, she needed to track down her father and get his financial information to apply for financial aid, despite Elora never knowing him. She tracked him down and followed him around his town until he confronted her and realized as soon as he saw her who she was. They got coffee together at a diner and he filled out the paperwork for her. She went to leave, but he stopped her and asked her to come back to his house, where he had something for her. She agreed and at his house, he dug out a picture of her from her first birthday. He told her about his relationship with Cookie and how rocky it was. He last saw Elora at her first birthday. As they talked, he admitted that he was in the wrong, that he could have tried harder and was trying harder with his other children, of whom he had full custody while their mother was in treatment for opiate addiction. Elora went with him to his kids' bus stop, where he introduced her to his other children as their sister. They were happy to meet her and invited her to get pizza with them. Elora accepted and while they were eating pizza, she got to know them all better. After their meal, they asked her to visit again and she promised she would saying she was probably going to school nearby so she'd be by a lot. Then she left to go back to Okern.[22]

Fixico's Funeral[]

When Old Man Fixico died, Elora was one of the many who came to mourn him. She helped the women cook for everyone. After she learned that Rita was moving away for her new job, Elora pulled Bear aside and told him she was also leaving, to move into the dorms for college. He told her he would miss her, but he understood that she needed to do it. She sold Mabel's house and bought a pickup truck from her dad to help her start her new life.[23]
